Our History

1997

Industry Pioneers

MicroRate began operations in Washington, D.C.



1993

Subsidiary in Lima

Our subsidiary office in Lima, Peru, was established to coordinate operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

2011

Authorized by the SBS

MicroRate was officially authorized and recognized by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Fund Managers of Peru (SBS) as a regulated risk rating agency.



2016

Research Division

MicroRate Research was created as a business unit focused on research and sectoral analysis, aiming to support studies and provide analytical tools.

2021

Regulation in Tunisia​

MicroRate was officially recognized as a rating agency for microfinance institutions by the Central Bank of Tunisia.

Nuestro equipo


Mayumi Ogata



Economist with 14 years of experience in the comprehensive analysis of microfinance institutions. She has led institutional evaluations and credit, portfolio, and social performance ratings in over 12 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia. She holds certifications in client protection and currently serves as CEO and director of the Internal Subcommittee for Social Rating Methodology at MicroRate.


Eduardo Zúñiga



Economist with an MBA degree from Cornell University a Master in Finance degree from Universidad del Pacifico. He has developed his career in risk analysis within financial institutions in Peru and the U.S. He has participated in institutional, credit, and social rating missions in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, and is a member of the Internal Committee for Credit Ratings.                                                    


Francisco Sánchez



Economist specialized in corporate and sustainable finance. He has over 8 years of experience in the financial system, with a focus on risk management, social performance, and sustainability. He has led numerous rating processes for banks and microfinance institutions in 9 Latin American countries and is experienced in Client Protection Standards (CPS) certification processes.                                      

 

Daniel Panaifo



Economist specialized in corporate and sustainable finance. He has over 8 years of experience in the financial system, with a focus on risk management, social performance, and sustainability. He has led numerous rating processes for banks and microfinance institutions in 9 Latin American countries and is experienced in Client Protection Standards (CPS) certification processes.
